Chembai Special : Vivekananda Kendra News

The Indian tendency, on the other hand, to represent the ideal, the supersensual, has become degraded into painting grotesque images. Now, true Art can be compared to a lily which springs from the ground, takes its nourishment from the ground, is in touch with the ground, and yet is quite high above it. So Art must be in touch with nature — and wherever that touch is gone, Art degenerates — yet it must be above nature. Art is — representing the beautiful. There must be Art in everything.

To those of us who have heard about only transpersonal psychology - now we know what is transpersonal ecology.

The magnificent Puppet Show

The whole world is nothing but a magnificent Puppet Show. So says Kerala’s great poet of satire and originator of famous Ottanthullal. According to him, the director of the cosmic show goes on pulling the threads that make us move our head, hands and feet, that is, dance to his tune. When he pulls out the threads, lo, we fall down dead.

Isn’t the whole world then a ‘BOMMAKOLU’ where crores and crores of dolls or puppets – human beings, animals, birds and countless other organisms are made to play their part in a mega cosmic drama. Each man and woman thinks that he /she is the best actor and his/her acting is the best. Little do we realize we are all puppets and the one who pulls the threads remains invisible. We have to dance to his tune and when he pulls the thread, off we fall down dead.

This being a fact, why can’t we behave more responsibly, more pleasingly and dance more rhythmically and live more purposefully. Each doll in the bommakolu is a reflection of ourselves as is every creation in the universe. In Sri Sankaras words “Viswam dharpanamana nagari” – the world is a mirror. Let us, looking at the dolls in the bommakolu, learn to expand our understanding to include everything and remain happily attuned to all the creations in the universe.

Vasudhaiva kutumbakam is the message that the bommakolu gives. Meditate on the great truth that we are nothing but puppets in the Lords hands.

Discourse on Mayamara namghar held

GUWAHATI, Oct 5 – The Mayamara namghar, like namghars of other communities, is a meeting ground for people from different backgrounds, but its egalitarian nature is also reflected in its architecture and locational orientation.
The structure is designed with the idea that the namghar easily attracts people, is suitable for accommodating large congregations, and can easily hold bhaonas and other events for the faithful.
This was mentioned by the Yuvadhikar of Dinjoy Sattra, Mukundananda Chandra Goswami, while delivering a lecture at an interactive session on the namghar organised by the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) here recently.
This was the eighth lecture in a series on the venerable religious and social institution of Assam.
He stated that the Mayamara namghar was the outcome of a long evolution, right from the time when Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev established a Sattra at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district. The values and ideals he and his followers stood for are sustained by the present Mayamara namghar spread across several districts of Assam.
“The Mayamara belief system lays great stress on leading a way of life in which good conduct and fellow feeling are placed in high order. Through various vicissitudes, especially political persecution, these principles have enabled the Mayamara namghar to survive, prosper and contribute to the religious and social spheres of the society,” Goswami said.
The session was moderated by Dr BK Gohain, who emphasized that the Mayamara namghar could be understood in the historical context of Assam. Noted sociologist Prof Andre Beteille attended the lecture along with a number of scholars.
Prof Beteille formally released a VKIC publication on the Rabhas of Assam.

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas Arunachal Pradesh Trust September Month Report

In a forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth. She finds a remote grass field near a strong-flowing river. This seems a safe place. Suddenly labor pain begins. At the same moment, dark clouds gather around above and lightning starts a forest fire. She looks to her left and sees a hunter with his extended bow pointing at her. To her right, she spots a hungry lion approaching her. What can the pregnant deer do? She is in labor! What will happen? Will the deer survive? Will she give birth to a fawn? Will the fawn survive? Or will everything be burnt by the forest fire? Will she perish to the hunter's arrow? Will she die a horrible death at the hands of the hungry lion approaching her? She is constrained by the fire on one side and the flowing river on the other and boxed in by her natural predators. What does she do? She focuses on giving birth to a new life.

The sequence of events that follows are: - Lightning strikes and blinds the hunter - He releases the arrow which zips past the deer and strikes the hungry lion - It starts to rain heavily, and the forest fire is slowly doused by the rain. The deer gives birth to a healthy fawn. In our life too, there are moments of choice when we are confronted from all corners with negative thoughts and possibilities.
