INAUGURATION OF APPROACH ROAD
The approach road of VKV, Suklai was inaugurated on 25th April, 2012 by Sri Ganesh Kachari, EM, BTAD.
WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS/PARENTS
Her Holiness Swamini Pramananda, fondly known as ‘Ammaji’, a highly regarded teacher of Vedanta and a spiritual guide, visited VKV Tinsukia during first week of May 2012 and conducted workshop/spiritual retreat for teachers and parents.
NEW SCHOOL BUILDING OF VKV SIVASAGAR
The newly constituted school building of VKV, Sivasagar was inaugurated on 6th May, 2012 Sri Debobrata Saikia, MLA, Nazira Constituency and Pravin Dabholkar, Joint General Secretary, VK Kanyakumari were respectively the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour in this inauguration ceremony which was attended by around 400 people.
HEALTH CAMP
A health camp for students was organized by VKV, Suklai in association with Jogen Basumatary Vivekananda Kendra Hospital, Suklai on 8th May, 2012.
LANGUAGE TEACHERS WORKSHOP
A workshop was conducted for Language Teachers in VKV, Majuli on 19th & 20th May, 2012 with Sri Dulal Chandra Nath, former Headmaster of VKV Suklai as Resource Person.
TOY MAKING WORKSHOP
A team of 49 students of VKV (NEC) Baragolai conducted a children’s toy making workshop on 25th May, 2012 under the guidance of their teachers Sri Manish Kr. Dey & Sri Tarini Kanta Sarma at Shankardev Vidyapeeth, Ledo. 500 students of Shankardev Vidyapeeth participated in the workshop in which more than 250 models were displayed.
GEOMETRICAL MODEL MAKING WORKSHOP
VKV, Sivasagar organized a day long workshop on Geometrical Model Making at Sivasagar Govt. H. S. & M. P. School, Sivasagar on 16th June, 2012. Twenty-one students from different schools of Sivasagar took part in this workshop which was conducted by a team of 8 students from VKV Dibrugarh guided by their teacher Su. Junali Borpatra Gohain.
SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP
A workshop on Science & Mathematics (three dimensional models) was conducted in VKV Ramnagar, Silchar from 4th August to 7th August, 2012 under guidance of Su. Lalita M. S., Joint Secretary, VKSPV. A team of 10 students from VKVs Dibrugarh, Tingrai, Tinsukia & Umrangso along with two teachers, Sri Biju Rai Singhania of VKV Umrangso and Sri Sonu Gupta of VKV Tinsukia conducted the workshop in which 86 students of classes VII, VIII, IX & X of VKV Ramnagar (Silchar) and Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Irongmara (Silchar) participated. Sri Kabindra Purkayastha, Honourable M. P., visited the workshop on 5th August. Also a large number of parents, well wishers and teachers from various educational institutions visited the workshop & appreciated the effort.
FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR NEW SCHOOL BUILDING AT RAMNAGAR (SILCHAR)
The foundation stone for a new school building for VKV Ramnagar (Silchar) was laid on 5th August, 2012 by the Honourable Member of Parliament Sri Kabindra Purkayastha who had granted Rs. 10 lacs from his MP’s Fund for construction of the said building. The programme was also attended by Dr. S. K. Nandi Purkayastha, Vice-chairman of Vidyalaya Managing Committee, Sri Kanad Purkayastha, MP’s Nominee and Su. M. S. Lalita, Joint Secretary, Vivekananda Kendra Shiksha Prasar Vibhag. A large number of students and parents were present in the programme. The Honourable MP Sri Kabindra Purkayastha also handed over the first installment of Rs. 3 lacs from the MP’s Fund to the school Management on this occasion.
WORKSHOP ON HANDWRITING
A workshop to develop good handwriting was conducted in VKV Sivasagar on 11th August, 2012 for the students of the Vidyalaya. Sri Robin Pathak, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Sivasagar Branch was the resource person in the workshop. The teachers of the Vidyalaya also attended the workshop.
BAND GROUP’S PERFORMANCE
The Band Group of VKV Nalbari displayed an attractive performance in the Independence Day Celebration organized at the SP Office Playground on 15th August, 2012. The performance was praised by all present in the programme.
WORKSHOP IN N. E. ACADEMY, SADIA
A workshop on three dimensional Geometry models was organised in North Eastern Academy, Sadia (under guidance of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari) on 25th & 26th August, 2012 for the students of classes VII to X. Nearly 100 students of seven schools of Sadia participated in this workshop which was conducted by a team of 8 students of VKV, Tinsukia under the guidance of Su. Lalita M. S., Joint Secretary, VKSPV. A large number of parents and well wishers visited the workshop and praised the effort.
VKVIANS’ ACHIEVEMENTS
Sri Prasoon Kumar Parihar and Sri Anis Adak of Class X of VKV (NEC) Baragolai won the 2nd prize in a debate competition on the Topic “Big dams are beneficial for us” organized by Coal Mines Officers Association of India at Ledo on 20th April, 2012.
Students of VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso exhibited two models on, ‘Optimum Use of Solar Energy’ and ‘Altimeter’ at CBSE Regional Level Science Exhibition held on 10th & 11th August, 2012 at GEMS NPS International School, Guwahati.
VKSPV INITIATIVES
SCIENCE WORKSHOP
VKSPV organized science workshop-cum-exhibition at VKV (NEEPCO) Umrangso from 8th to 10th May, 2012. Thirty students of classes IX and X were trained in various experiments in Science by the invited Resource Person Sri R. N. Dixit, the State Coordinator (Maharastra) of National Children’s Science Congress. Sri Dixit was assisted by Smt. Manjusha Dixit, a teacher in Karya Vidyalaya, Pune. The trained students exhibited the experiments for other students of the school, teachers and parents on the last day. They also conducted exhibitions on these experiments in two nearby schools.
Similar workshop-cum-exhibition was organized in VKV Majuli on 14th & 15th May and VKV Tingrai from 17th to 19th May with Sri R. N. Dixit as the resource person.
EXCURSION TO GUJARAT
Like previous years, this year VKSPV organized an educational tour for a group of school students and escort teachers. A team of 34 students and 12 teachers & officials led by Su. Lalita M. S., Joint Secretary, VKSPV started from Guwahati on 2nd July, 2012 towards Gujarat.
The team reached Ahmadabad on 4th July, stayed there a couple of days in the Ashram of Gujarat Vidyapeeth and visited many places of social/historical importance.
Some of those places are:
• Gandhiji’s House, Hridayakunj
• The House of Madeleine Slade – known as Meera of Gandhiji
• Satyagraha Ashram – presently known as Sabarmati Ashram
• Temple of Swami Narayan - Akshardham
• Energy Park , Museum, Spinning & Weaving School, Khadi Cottage Industry in Gujarat Vidyapeeth
• Vikram Sarabhai Community Space Centre
HRIDAYAKUNJ - GANDHIJI’S HOUSE
On 7th July, the touring team reached Somnath , visited the famous temples there and then left for Porbandar. The important places visited in Somnath and Porbandar are:
• Golokdham Lakshmi Mandir
• Somnath Temple
• Jyotirlinga Temple
• Hanuman Mandir of Jamnagar (established by Santoshi Ma, a German Lady)
• Kirti Mandir (the house of Mahatma Gandhi)
• The team reached Dwaraka on 8th July and visited the following famous places there the next day:
• Nageshwar temple
• Bhalka Tirth Mandir
• Gopi Talab
• Dwarkadheesh Temple

DWARKADHEESH TEMPLE
On 9th July the touring team reached Dharampur to attend a four-day workshop at ARCH (Area Rescue Consortium of Hospitals). During the days of workshop, the team also visited the District Science Centre, Dharampur and a school at Kharki where the visiting team got a grand welcome. The members of the visiting team had different interactive sessions with the students & teachers of the school at Kharki.
The team started its return journey on 13th July, 2012 and reached Guwahati on 15th July, 2012.
