Teachers’ Day and Onam Celebration at VKV Vallioor

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Vallioor (VKV-Vallioor), celebrated Teachers’ Day and Onam on 8th September 2025 in the school premises with the participation of 875 students.

The programme commenced at 11.30 am in the presence of distinguished guests. The Chief Guest was Dr. ThamaraiselviPresident of the Inner Wheel Club of Vallioor, accompanied by Special Guests Dr. Shama, M.B.B.S., (ISO, Inner Wheel Club of Vallioor), Smt. Jency Rajesh (Secretary, Inner Wheel Club of Vallioor), and Shri S. Sudhir Kanthan (Ex-President, Rotary Club of Vallioor). The function was presided over by Shri S.K. Subramanian, Correspondent, VKV Vallioor.

The Teachers’ Day celebration began with prayer, reflecting the Indian tradition of invoking blessings at the start of any event. A total of 32 student-teachers prepared a timetable and conducted classes for Standards V to VIII, taking up the role of their teachers with creativity and dedication. Their innovative teaching methods were well appreciated, and winners among them were recognized with prizes. Teachers were also honoured with complements by the management as a mark of gratitude for their guidance and contribution.

On the same day, the harvest festival of Kerala—Onam—was celebrated with equal enthusiasm. Students brought flower petals and, along with staff, created a vibrant Pookolam (floral carpet) in the school portico. The colourful floral design symbolized peace, prosperity, love, harmony, ethics, and reverence for nature. Cultural presentations included students dressed as Mahabali and Vamana, enacting the story of Mahabali Moksha under the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

The dual celebration highlighted gratitude towards teachers and the rich cultural heritage of Onam, inspiring the students with values of respect, unity, and tradition.
