The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, followed by a soulful invocation song, “Vande Mataram,” sung by the students of VKV. The welcome address was delivered by Smt. K.G. Sariga, Principal of VKV Kanyakumari. A memorable highlight of the event was the Chicago Address delivered by Kum. J. Sharva Rakshitha Sri of Class IV, who, dressed as Swami Vivekananda, presented the historic speech with confidence and devotion.
In his address, Chief Guest Dr. S. Joseph Jawahar emphasized the timeless relevance of Swamiji’s message of universal brotherhood and service to humanity. He motivated the students to cultivate self-confidence, focus on their studies with dedication, and commit themselves to the service of the nation. The Special Guest, Dr. M. Chandran, highlighted India’s spiritual legacy and the impact of Swamiji’s teachings on national movements. He urged the students to uphold Swamiji’s ideals and carry them forward with pride.
Prizes were awarded to the winners of the inter-school competition on Swamiji’s quotations, with five schools participating enthusiastically. Employees of Vivekananda Kendra and VKV were also honoured for their 20 and 10 years of dedicated service. The presidential address was delivered by Mananeeya Rekha Didi, who recalled Swamiji’s struggles before his historic Chicago address and the miraculous impact of his words on the world.
The dignitaries were felicitated with mementos, and Vice Principal Shri S. Sanjeevi Rajan delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all who supported the programme. The celebrations concluded with a vibrant cultural programme featuring dramas, dances, and performances by the students, each carrying a meaningful message. The event came to a close with the chanting of Shanti Mantra, spreading peace and harmony.
