Free Eye Screening Camp Organized at Pasuvandhanai by VKRDP

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Rural Development Programme (VKRDP), Kovilpatti Branch organized a Free Eye Screening Camp at the Government Higher Secondary School, Pasuvandhanai, on September 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp was conducted in association with Aravind Eye Hospital, Thoothukudi, and Azhagar Jewellers, Thoothukudi.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by donors, followed by prayer. Shri. Paramaguru Anna delivered the welcome address, highlighting the service activities and social initiatives undertaken by Vivekananda Kendra for community welfare.

A team of doctors from Aravind Eye Hospital, Thoothukudi, conducted the screening. The examinations included general vision tests, cataract detection, and other eye health checks. The camp witnessed participation from 126 people hailing from 36 nearby villages, with a majority of the beneficiaries being elderly residents. Out of the attendees, 26 participants were referred to Aravind Eye Hospital, Thoothukudi, for further specialized treatment. 16 participants received free eye drops to treat acute issues detected during the screening.

The camp was made successful through the dedicated efforts of VKRDP volunteers, donors, and well-wishers, who took care of every detail including registration, issuing tokens, guiding the elderly to various sections for screening, and even providing lunch to the beneficiaries.
