Mother's Day Celebration at VKV Kanyakumari

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu Prant) celebrated Mother's Day with profound reverence in connection with the birth anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa on 13 March 2026. The event drew 150 participants, including students, teachers, and parents. The celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the selfless dedication of mothers in nurturing future generations. 

The program commenced on a divine note with a prayer song rendered by a participant, Smt. Krishna Poonkodi. Smt. Selvarani gracefully hosted the event as the Master of Ceremonies, ensuring smooth transitions between events, while Smt. Maya Devi warmly delivered the welcome address. The festivities featured a variety of spirited competitions—including Rangoli, Kolaru Pathiham Reciting, Indoor & Outdoor Games and Cooking—where mothers showcased their diverse talents.

The occasion was graced by the Chief Guests, Thiru Kalidasan and Smt. J.L. Abirami, P.E.T. Teacher, S.M.S.M. Hr. Sec. School, Suchindrum. In her insightful address, Smt. Abirami fondly recalled her past connection with the school as a student competitor and expressed pride in returning as a guest. Quoting the Thirukkural and Mahatma Gandhi, she emphasized that mothers are primary architects of a child's character. She shared the inspiring historical legend of a brave mother from Chhatrapati Shivaji’s era to highlight a mother's boundless courage. To guide modern parenting, she advised mothers to speak kindly to children, especially in the morning; to monitor their friendships and environments while actively listening to them; to narrate inspiring historical stories to build character; and to curtail mobile phone screen time while fostering a love for reading.

The program was presided over by Aadaraneeya Kum. Priyamvada Didi, Jeevan-vrati karyakarta of Vivekananda Kendra. The atmosphere remained lively as winners of various competitions, including a special cooking contest for teachers, were honored during the prize distribution ceremony led by Smt. Shanthakumari. The program concluded with a series of touching testimonials from mothers, who shared the joys and challenges of parenthood.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Smt. Anitha and the chanting of the Shanti Mantra.

Mother's Day Celebration at VKV Vallioor

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor (Tamil Nadu Prant), celebrated the Mother’s Day on 18 February 2026 at 2.30 PM in the Yoga Hall with the participation of 250 parents. The programme was presided over by Sri S. K. Subramanianji, Correspondent of VKV MHSS Vallioor, and Smt. K. Sumitha, MA., B.Ed., Counselor of Vadakku Vallioor Panchayat, attended as the Chief Guest.

The celebration was organized to honour the selfless love and sacrifice of mothers. The programme began with a devotional prayer song rendered by the students seeking the blessings of the Almighty, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by teacher Smt. Subha. The Chief Guest inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of the Correspondent Sri S. K. Subramanianji and the Principal Smt. S. Esakkiammal.

Various cultural programmes and competitions were conducted to highlight the greatness of motherhood. Students performed a rhythmic dance and presented a choral tribute expressing love and gratitude towards mothers. A poetry competition was also conducted in which students recited touching verses describing the word “Amma” as a three-letter miracle.

The winners of the competitions were honoured and presented prizes by the Chief Guest. On the significance of the day, teacher Smt. Revathi spoke about how a mother is the first deity in a child’s life, referring to the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The programme also included inspiring words and spiritual quotes of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Holy Mother Sarada Devi emphasizing the divine nature of motherhood. A lucky card prize segment was also conducted for the parents which added excitement to the celebration. In her address, the Chief Guest highlighted that a mother’s upbringing forms the strong foundation for a successful life. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. T. Rajula Devi.

Matru Puja at VKV, Kanyakumari

Matru Puja was celebrated on 26th Feb, 2011 at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Kanyakumari. The function started by 1.00 P.M. Approximately 200 mothers participated very actively. Various competitions were conducted. Their participation was very well. General meeting started by 4.00P.M. Dr. Kalai Selvi, MBBS, DGO, was the Chief Guest. and Man. Nivedita didi, Vice President, Vivekananda Kendra was the Special Guest. Both the guest given a valuable speech related with the Mothers and their responsibilities. Winners were appreciated by giving prizes.
