As part of the global observance of International Day of Yoga 2026, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Valmiki Nagar Chennai Branch, organised a vibrant and spiritually enriching yoga session at Samadhi Yoga Sewana, Makola, Sri Lanka, on 21 June 2026, from 8:00 a.m.
The celebration was held in alignment with this year's International Day of Yoga theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging” and aimed to deepen the understanding of yoga as a unifying force for individual well-being and collective harmony.
A total of 50 participants, primarily regular practitioners of Samadhi Yoga Sewana, gathered at the venue to perform the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. In addition, participants from the regular Yoga Varga of Vivekananda Kendra also joined the programme online, making it a shared celebration across borders. The session was conducted live through an online platform by yoga instructors from the Valmiki Nagar Branch, Chennai.
The participants enthusiastically followed the session with discipline, synchrony, and focused attention throughout the programme.
Following the yoga practice, Smt. Thangalakshmi Balasubramanian, Prant pramukh, Tamil Nadu Prant, Vivekananda Kendra addressed the participants. She reminded everyone that the practice of yoga extends far beyond the performance of asanas. Emphasising the essence of yogic living, she urged all to strive to practise the principles of Yama and Niyama in their daily lives—every day, forever, and in every situation. She also encouraged everyone to adopt the 15–10–5 daily routine recommended by Mananeeya Nivedita Didi, Vice President, Vivekananda Kendra, as a simple and practical discipline for nurturing physical health, mental balance, and spiritual growth.
The programme concluded with the chanting of Patanjali Vandana and the Shanti Mantra, creating an atmosphere of peace, harmony, and spiritual unity.
On behalf of Samadhi Yoga Sewana, Shri Thilakaratne Ji expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Vivekananda Kendra for organising and guiding the programme. The participants also conveyed their sincere appreciation for the inspiring and meaningful celebration.
TThe successful observance once again reflected the spirit of universal brotherhood through yoga and strengthened the enduring cultural and spiritual bond between India and Sri Lanka. The programme served as a reminder that yoga is not merely a practice for physical fitness but a lifelong path towards self-discipline, inner harmony, and selfless service.
