The Free Operation camp organized by Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti, Arunachal Pradesh in association with Remote Area Medical Corp. Knoxville, USA concluded successfully on 22nd January, 2016. A strong team of 9 Doctors from USA and India volunteered for this noble venture. A total 42 surgeries were conducted during the camp out of this 31 were major surgeries like gall bladder stones, appendicitis, ovarian cysts and hernia. 34 endoscopies were done by Dr.Vinayak Kulkarni, a renowned Gastroenterologist fro
m Cincinnati, USA. Four General Surgeons and two Anesthetists performed the surgeries in Coal India Hospital, Margherita ,Assam. Two Medicine specialists and one Pediatrician examined 125 patients in OPD. Most of the patients are from Changlang, Tirap districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Tinsukia district of Assam
On 18th January 2016 the camp was formally inaugurated by the General Manager of North Eastern Coalfields Sri Jugal Chandra Bora. Along with him shared the dais were Dr. Binit Kumar Baruah, Medical Director, VKNRL Hospital, Numaligarh, Sri Hamjong Matcha, Vibhag Sanchalak, Tirap Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Arunachal Prant, Sri Ganesh Kurmi, Prant saha Sanchalak, Assam Prant, Vivekananda Kendra and Dr. Robin Saikia, Chief Medical Officer, Central Hospital, CIL, Margherita. Sri Bora appreciated the cause and assured to help and support Vivekananda Kendra in a bigger way in future.
It is to be mentioned that since 2008, the Remote Area Medical volunteers are visiting us and till now conducted 11 such operation camps in various locations of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. 492 surgeries were done without any complications. More than 5000 patients were treated in OPD and 430 endoscopies were done.
