Vivekananda Kendra and Kamaraj College Jointly Celebrate International Day of Yoga 2026 in Thoothukudi

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Thoothukudi Nagar, in collaboration with Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 6.00 a.m. on the college grounds. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from school and college students, faculty members, and parents from across the district.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Dr. K. Bhanumathi, Principal, Kamaraj College (Autonomous). The programme was presided over by Dr. S. Kannadasan, District Inspector of Physical Education, Thoothukudi, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the vital role of yoga in nurturing physical fitness, mental well-being, and a balanced lifestyle, encouraging the participants to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine.

Smt. Subathra Vetrivel, Sanchalak, Thoothukudi Nagar, along with the Nagar Samiti members and participants of the regular Yoga Varga, also took part in the celebrations.

The Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH was demonstrated by the Karyakartas of Vivekananda Kendra. The session included loosening exercises, yogasanas, pranayama, meditation (dhyana), and concluded with the Sankalpa.

A total of 569 students and faculty members from various schools and colleges participated in the grand celebration. Participation certificates were distributed to all student participants to encourage continued practice of yoga, while the participating educational institutions were honoured with mementoes in appreciation of their support. Breakfast was served to all the children following the programme.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Shri Dr. A. Mathana Gopal, Assistant Professor, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), and a Karyakarta of Vivekananda Kendra, Thoothukudi Nagar.

The programme was successfully organised through the dedicated efforts of the Karyakartas of Vivekananda Kendra, Thoothukudi Nagar, in close coordination with the faculty members of Kamaraj College, making the celebration a meaningful and memorable observance of the International Day of Yoga.

Universal Brotherhood Day Celebration at Kamaraj College in Thoothukudi

To commemorate Universal Brotherhood Day and in remembrance of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari , Tamil Nadu Prant, Thoothukudi Branch, organized a Special Workshop at Kamaraj College (Autonomous). The event was held between 10:45 AM and 1:15 PM on 11th September 2025, with enthusiastic participation from the faculty, volunteers, and 50 students from the self-financing streams of the college.

The programme commenced with the garlanding of Swami Vivekananda’s statue inside the campus, followed by a prayer. The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony set the tone for the celebrations, after which Mrs. Chandramathi, volunteer of Vivekananda Kendra, rendered a soulful prayer song. Professor Dr. Raja Lakshmi from the Department of Tamil welcomed the gathering with insightful remarks.

The highlight of the programme was a motivational address by Shri. Ayyappan Anna, Prant Sah Sangatak, Tamil Nadu Prant, who elaborated on the goal and relevance of universal brotherhood in today’s times. Students were divided into groups for an interactive session on three thought-provoking sub-topics such as Brotherhood in the past, Brotherhood in the present and Challenges to brotherhood in the modern world.
Each group used charts and sketches to brainstorm their reflections, followed by brief presentations that showcased their perspectives. This activity created a lively atmosphere of learning and exchange of ideas.

Following the workshop & presentations, a sessions on the spiritual, social, and service initiatives were presented to the students - Smt. Chandramathi Akka explained the ‘Pidi Arisi Thittam’ (A scheme for donating fistful of rice everyday), Anna Pooja, Shri. R. Balaji Anna spoke on : Benefits of Yoga, Dr. Rajalakshmi on the Blood and Organ Donation Camps by Kamaraj College, Shri. R. Muniappan Anna on the Cultural Competitions and experiences at Kanyakumari Camp and Dr. A. Mathan Kumar (DHAN Foundation, Madurai )elaborated on the RDP activities like Deepa Pooja, Eye Check-up Camp etc.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. A. Mathan Kumar, engaged students through interactive discussions, highlighting ways to practice Swami Vivekananda’s message in everyday life. Smt. Sharmila, Principal of Sri Saradha Nursery & Primary School, participated along with Nagar Samiti members Shri . Muthukumar Anna, Sah Nagar Pramukh and Shri . Kallapiran Anna, Nagar Vyavastha Pramukh.

The celebration concluded with a prayer and distribution of prasadam. Students expressed that the sessions had inspired them to reflect deeply on Swami Vivekananda’s timeless message of harmony, unity, and universal brotherhood.

Sri Rudra Homam and Abhishekam at Thoothukudi

Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Thoothukudi Branch conducted a spiritually vibrant Sri Rudra Homam and Sri Rudra Abhishekam on 17th August 2025, Sunday at Sri Saradha Nursery and Primary School. The puja, held between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., was dedicated to invoking the blessings of Lord Rudra for the smooth progress of Vivekananda Kendra’s activities across the country and for the well-being of society.

The event drew nearly 80 participants, including Karyakartas, devotees, and well-wishers, who gathered with devotion and reverence. The rituals began with the worship of Sri Mahalingeshwarar, performed with eleven rounds of Abhishekam using sacred substances. This was followed by the chanting of the Trishati Archana, in which the 300 names of Lord Shiva were recited with faith and dedication, creating an atmosphere charged with devotion.

A notable part of the ceremony was the installation of twelve Kalasas, symbolizing purity and divine presence. Students from Kathirvel Veda Agama Patashala led the puja with disciplined chanting of Vedic mantras, lending solemnity and spiritual intensity to the proceedings.

The Rudra Homam, performed with the precise intonations of the Sri Rudram from the Yajurveda, invoked the protective and transformative energies of Lord Rudra. The combination of fire offerings and ritual chants was seen as a means to dispel negativity, purify the mind, and inspire inner growth.

The day’s program concluded with annadanam served to all attendees, reflecting the spirit of harmony, sharing, and service that forms the foundation of the Kendra’s activities.

Free Eye Screening Camp at Thoothukudi

 

On behalf of Vivekananda Kendra Rural Development Programme (Tamil Nadu Prant), Kovilpatti Branch, a free eye screening camp was conducted on 22nd June 2025 at Geetha Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Thoothukudi, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The camp was organised in collaboration with Aravind Eye Hospital, Thoothukudi, with the objective of providing essential eye care services to people from rural areas. Beneficiaries from 18 villages attended the camp. A total of 72 outpatients (OP) were screened, and 12 individuals (IP) were referred for further treatment.

The camp began with the lighting of the lamp by doctors from Aravind Eye Hospital. Shri. P. Jeevan Jacob, Secretary of Geetha Schools, served as the Chief Guest, formally inaugurated the camp, and addressed the participants, appreciating the initiative and its impact on rural health.

RDP social workers and volunteers from Thoothukudi district ensured the smooth and effective execution of the camp. They guided the participants, coordinated logistics, and contributed significantly to the overall success of the event.

International Day of Yoga 2025 Celebrations across Southern Tamil Nadu by VK RDP

As a part of International Day of Yoga 2025 celebrations, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu Prant,

Rural Development Programme (VK-RDP), organized large-scale yoga awareness and practice sessions across multiple districts of southern Tamil Nadu. The event, held on 21st June 2025, witnessed overwhelming participation from rural communities, educational institutions, and local organizations.

The day’s celebrations aligned with this year’s IDY theme promoting “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, reaching the grassroots with a focus on health and oneness through yoga.

In Kanyakumari district, RDP volunteers conducted yoga sessions in 19 villages, including Thengamputhoor, Kannambivilai, Kalingarajapuram, and Peyankuzhi. A total of 498 participants actively engaged in the programme. These sessions emphasized simple yogic practices suitable for daily life and were especially focused on children and youth. The local community response was enthusiastic, with several expressing interest in continuing regular yoga practice.

The Tirunelveli district witnessed energetic participation with 516 people across 18 villages such as Ambasamudram, Ilanji, Mannarkoil, and Vallioor. Yoga classes were held in village common areas and community halls, ensuring easy accessibility for villagers. Special focus was given to students and homemakers, who make up a large part of the rural population and benefit significantly from yoga’s holistic approach.

Thoothukudi district emerged as a major hub of activity with a staggering 2,867 participants from over 20 different centres, including both rural locations and schools. Notably, schools such as Govt. School Sekkarakudi, Lakshmi Aalai Hr Sec School and VOC Boys Hr Sec School became focal points of IDY celebration. The largest single gathering took place at Thayilpatti, which saw a massive turnout of 600 participants. This widespread educational involvement reflects the RDP’s sustained efforts to integrate yoga into youth development.

In Ramanathapuram district, IDY sessions were held in 18 villages like Kadambodai, Morepannai, Thiruppullani, and Nambuthalai. A total of 442 people took part in the yoga events, which also included special sessions for children.

In Virudhunagar district, the celebration reached 330 participants, with events conducted in places like Rajapalayam, Kalloorani, and Thiruchuli. These programmes were carried out with the support of local schools and community leaders.

In total, the Rural Development Programme of Vivekananda Kendra mobilized 4,653 participants across five districts—a remarkable feat demonstrating the strength of community involvement and the growing relevance of yoga as a way of life.

Yoga Satra at Thoothukudi

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu Prant, Thoothukudi Branch, organized a 10-day Yoga Satra exclusively for the college professors of Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi. The Satra was conducted from 3rd to 13th June 2025, with daily sessions held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. An average of 40 professors enthusiastically participated in the Satra, displaying keen interest and commitment throughout the program.

Shri Veluswamy ji, Yoga Pramukh, conducted the practical sessions, which included loosening exercises, Surya Namaskar, a variety of Yogasanas, Pranayama, and relaxation techniques. The theory sessions were enriched by insights from experienced Karyakartas—Shri Balasubramanian Anna, Senior Yoga Instructor and Kendra Karyakarta, Shri Ayyappan Anna (Sah Prant Sanghatak, Tamilnadu Prant and Prakalpa Sangatak, VKRDP), and Shri Paramaguru Anna (Sah Prakalp Sanghatak, VKRDP). These sessions provided valuable insights into the foundational concepts of Yoga, including its definitions, the principles of Ashtanga Yoga, and the deeper philosophical aspects of a yogic lifestyle.

A special contribution came from the regular Yoga Varga participants of Vivekananda Kendra Thoothukudi, who volunteered their time during the Satra. Their presence greatly enriched the sessions as they assisted in guiding and correcting postures during practice, ensuring a more personalized and effective learning experience for the participants.

Participants were also provided with our yoga book and supportive learning materials, enabling them to continue their practice beyond the Satra. Many of them shared that the Satra was a transformative experience and expressed deep satisfaction and joy in learning Yoga in its traditional and holistic form. The sessions not only introduced them to physical well-being but also inspired an inner journey towards understanding the spirit of Oneness, which Yoga ultimately aims to achieve.

Vivekananda Kendra Rural Development July Month Report

“Sri Rama Jaya Rama” Mantra was chanted during Deepa Pooja, Shivalinga Pooja and daily by our Balwadi school children, cultural class students and during monthly meetings by our Balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 8, 52,122 times mantras were chanted in 84 localities.

Through 74 Balwadis, 1,795 rural Children were nurtured. In all the Balwadis, Malt along with hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch with vegetables was served during the day. And in the evening vitamin-rich cereals were provided to the children.

In our Medicare Programme, 1818 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 14 Rural Medical Centers in Kanyakumari, Nellai and Thoothukudi districts.

In 173 Samskara Vargas, 6259 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games, lectures & lessons. The feelings of oneness were strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

Under Adopt a Grannie Programme, 26 destitute and old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 115 persons provided rice only, in Southern four districts of Tamilnadu.

Monthly Deepa poojas were organized in 216 village temples in five districts of Southern Tamilnadu, in which 9006 ladies participated and offered prayers for the welfare of self, family and the society.

Under Amrita Surabhi Scheme, our Kendra workers collected 550 Kgs of rice from five districts.

Through various branch centers, including Thoothukudi A.O. and book stalls, literature books were sold for Rs. 45,262 /-

Vivekavani Subscriptions for 133 three years one and 5 Patron were collected.

80 women are being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.

Swadhyaya Varga has been conducted at one place, Aruppukottai in which 13 persons attended

4 tailoring units are functioning well in Nellai & Kanyakumari districts with the total attendance of 81.

Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at 03 places in Kanyakumari District and 166 members participated.

Durga Pooja was conducted at 03 places, in Kanyakumari District in which 179 devotees participated.

Eye camps were conducted at 3 places, in Kanyakumari, Nellai and Thoothukudi districts in which 699 were treated for their eye ailments and 111 unter went cataract operation. 38 persons were given eye medicines and 31 persons were given spectacles.

Kendra Varga has been conducted at in Aruppukottai where 10 persons attended.

Parents meeting was conducted at 2 places in Kanyakumari district and 44 persons participated.

On 4th July 2016 Swami Vivekanandar Maha samathi day was observed with Anna Pooja and Social Workers Cultural Programme at Kanyakumari. More than 1000 persons came from southern five districts participated in this programme. Education Aid distributed 16 needy students worth of Rs.88500/- sponsered by Sriganesh Nantha Gopal,- Coimbatore, Maria Pia Machi, Siva Priya Ashramam- Curtralam. More than 3000 persons were served with noon prasatham including Vivekananda Kendra Vidhyalaya Kanyakumari, Vallioor students and teachers 1700.

Social workers refresher camp was held between 05.07.2016 to 08.07.2016 at Kanyakumari and 28 workers participated.All Social Workers visited one day to Koodankulam Nuclear Project - Koodankulam.On 8th July Vahana pooja was performed.

Balwadi teacher refresher camp was held from 30.06.2016 to 03.07.2016.

Teachers from Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and

Virudhunagar districts attended the camp. Totally 129 teachers and 12 workers

attended the camp. During the camp all the teachers were well trained.

Guru Purnima was celebrated at Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi. Nearly at 55

places and 3950 participated in the function.

Anna Pooja was conducted on 19.07.2016 at Ayyappa College in Kanyakumri district and

600 persons participated and 500 kgs rice collected.

Rural level competition was held in two districts Total No.of. competitions - 7, Schools -55, Students -1024, Parents - 10, Teachers - 76

INSPIRING INCIDENTS

J.Subbulakshmi- Thangammal puram – Thoothukudi District

A five years old boy. Rajesh Kannan is studying in our Creche. He is a good and obedient student.His sister (1 ½ years old) was admitted during Saraswathi Pooja. She is crying most of the time. This makes Rajesh Kannan worried and he used to control himself. He will come near her and clean her face and look after her very kindly. When the teacher feeds the child he comes and asks the teacher to allow him to feed her so that she will eat more. One day her legchain fell somewhere. A child named Mariselvi found it and gave it to the teacher. On seeing this, Rajesh told his mother not to send his sister with ornaments as the teacher had much work in the school. She should not thrust more work on

her. The boys maturity touched my heart.

N.Chandra – Ambai – Tirunelveli district

As I was suffering from some poisonous infection I went to a shop to buy medicinal plant for it. There I met a Headmaster and his wife working as a teacher in V.K.Puram. As they were known to me they talked intimately. The shopkeeper enquired me about my job and advised me to take care of the health. “Doing service is appreciable. To continue best service good health is essential” saying this he treated me kindly. I am proud of being a Kendra service worker.

V.Saradha, Social Workers – Thoothukudi District

This incident happened while conducting Midalangadu cultural competitions. One of the special invitees for the valedictory function asked us to tell a story to inspire the participants. At once Kasthuri teacher narrated a story in simple language so as to make all the children understand. The person who asked for the story told us that he didn’t even know that story and appreciated her. He also commented that the trainees of Vivekananda Kendra were talented and service – minded. That was their special quality. We all felt happy and proud of hearing such appreciation.

Rural Development Programme December Month Activities

1 “Sri Rama Jaya Rama” Mantra was chanted during the Deepa Pooja and Shivalinga Pooja and daily by our Balwadi school children, cultural class students and during monthly meetings by our Balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 8,07,620 times mantras were chanted in 84 localities.

4. Eye camps were conducted at 3 places, in Kanyakumari, Nellai and Thoothukudi districts in which 445 were treated for their eye ailments and 69 were operated for cataract. 51 persons given eye drops and 45 persons given spectacles.

5. In 175 Samskara Vargas, 7,140 students participated. The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games, lectures lessons. The feelings of oneness were strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

6. Under Adopt a Grannie Programme, 24 destitute and old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 112 persons provided rice only, in Southern four districts of Tamilnadu.

21. On 12th December 2023 children from 76 balwadies were given Vegetable rice, Bananas and Vada in memory of Smt. Chithra Ramasamy’s father.

22. On 14th December 2023 childrens from 76 ­­­­­balwadies were given Vegetable rice, Bananas and Vada in memory of Sri. Mohan Kumar.

23. Cultural class conference was held in Vallioor and Thoothukudi during December 2015. Nearly 268 students from 11 cultural classes participated in group songs, dramas, elocution and divine shows.

24. Anna Pooja was performed at Paramakudi in Ramnad district and 250 devotees participated in the function and rice up to 7000 kgs was collected.

25. Geetha chanting performed at 9 places in 3 district and 1130 participated.

26. 1008 Deepa Pooja was conducted 20.12.2015 in Thoothukudi Sri Sankara Rameshwar Temple where 920 devotees participated from 40 villages. Before that in Mathar Sammelan, one new book “Annaiar Kanda Annai Nam Bharatham” released by Mrs. Subathra Vetrivel. Cultural class and Balwadi students dramas and songs performed.

27. Anna Pooja with Geetha chanting was held at Kovilpatti. All India Treasurer Sri. Hanumanthra,  “Vivekavani” editor N.Krishnamoorthiji attended and blessed the participants. Nearly 3500 kgs rice collected and 150 participated in the programme.

28. Mathru Pooja and Parents Meeting were conducted in Tirunelveli and Ramnad district at 2 places and 125 participated.

INSPIRING INCIDENTS

P. Packia Saroja – Puthalam - Kanyakumari District

One day after closing the Balwadi, I locked the door and kept the key on the bench outside and sat there. When I thought of leaving I searched for the key. It was not on the bench. One of our Balwadi children named Tharshika came to me and took the key from the book she told me that she had kept the key safely under her books. It touched my heart and her consciousness of keeping things safely was really appreciable.

S.Jeyalakshmi – Sayalgudi – Ramnad District

On 18.08.2015 we conducted cultural competitions at girls’ Hr. Sec. School, Sayalgudi. It was my first experience. Because of our effective canvassing, more number of schools participated. After finishing I approached the Headmistress for distributing the prizes. She expressed her surprise and happiness on seeing the great number of participants. She regretted for not having an auditorium to accommodate comfortably. She also assured us that next year she would provide an auditorium. I felt proud and happy about my first experience.

V.Chenthil Kumari – North Peyankuzhi – Kanyakumari district

One day I happened to meet one of my religious class students. She felt much delighted on seeing me. She expressed her happiness on writing a test on the book “Indian Culture” and there by selected for the camp at Kanyakumari. She attended the ‘Deepa Pooja’ conducted in the camp and was much impressed on that. She also told me that with that experience, she herself conducted “Deepa Pooja” in her village. On hearing this, I felt very happy and proud of our Kendra activities.

Today renewable energy sources and technologies for energy production from renewable sources have become important. The book explores and introduces renewable energy sources.

In our happenings section, we have training programmes on Farming practices, Holistic health, Renewable energy sources etc.  In the ‘Green Rameshwaram’ project, we have highlighted Renovation of traditional water bodies and various other programmes such as cleaning, tree plantation, renovation of ancient building etc.

In the wisdom section, we have Kanchi Parmachariya imploring for lowering the standard of living as it will help in practicing high values in life. Lewis Mumford, American Historian & Sociologist says that the watchwords of the new world enveloping culture will be cultivation, humanization, cooperation and symbiosis. While, Aurelio Peccei, Italian scholar & Industrialist appeals that we must encourage the rise of new value systems to redress our inner balance, and of new spiritual, ethical, philosophical, social, aesthetic and artistic motivations to fill the emptiness of our life.

In our happenings section, we have workshop on Capacity building for Adaption of technology, training programme on cost effective bio-manure as well as biogas plant. In the ‘Green Rameshwaram’ project, we have tree plantation at public places by the NSS students as well as by the community, social engineering at the remote place of Dhanushkodi and different works carried out for the Revival of traditional water bodies. You will be happy to see the different stakeholders including local panchayat joining hands in revitalizing the ancient teerthams.

In the wisdom section, we have Lynton K.Caldwell, Professor and expert in the area of politics and Environment emphasizes the need for a Man to become a Better Man. Karen Christensen, American entrepreneur & Environmentalist tells us the need for changing the life style for the survival of the planet and Indian poet & professor, Makarand Paranjpe with his forth right views tells us not to imitate the west as West is really a Waste.

Home water harvesting to Holistic Thinking

This month newsletter we bring you excerpts from our book on water harvesting with special reference to roof water harvesting in the urban areas. One of the aims of Green Rameshwaram is to make the ancient island again a water bowl that it once was. Though situated in a relatively arid district, the island has been made a repository of water harvesting structures. Today we are reviving these structures and it is also necessary that the residents also continue this legacy of traditional water harvesting by making their own homes a potential water harvesting structure. We hope the book will inspire people to achieve this target.

In our happenings section we have training programs on enriched bio-manure; camp on the documentation of Siddha medicine and also bio-methanation plant training workshops. In the 'Green Rameshwaram' project the search for the lost traditional water harvesting structures has been going on relentlessly. Equipped with survey maps and local oral traditions as well as ancient literature. The recently discovered Parasuramar Teertham is a classic example of the Traditional Water Body associated with a lot of pan-Indian cultural linkages – in the form of ‘Namakkatti’. This is a major achievement for the 'Green Rameshwaram' team and is a veritable story of investigation of lost and found. Learn more about this in our newsletter.

In the publication section we have excerpt from our energy book which also aims to make Rameshwaram an energy abundant /self-reliant island In the wisdom section we have a modern Sufi saint speak about Indian tradition of nature veneration. A spiritual ecologist speaks of the need to to participate with a greater awareness in the process of transformation and makes seed a metaphor for that.  A Zen Buddhist speaks on the need to care for all life as 'even as a mother protects with her life her child, her only child' as we have this only planet.

Rural Development Programme August Month Activities

1  “Sri Rama Jaya Rama” Mantra was chanted during the Deepa Pooja and  Shivalinga Pooja and daily by our Balwadi school children, cultural class students and during monthly meetings by our Balwadi teachers and Social Workers. Every month nearly 7,56,760 times mantras were chanted in 84 localities.

2. Through 75 Balwadis, 1,864 rural Children were nurtured.  In all the Balwadis, Malt along with hygienically prepared highly nutritive lunch with vegetables was served during the day. And in the evening vitamin-rich cereals were provided to the children.

3. In our Medicare Programme, 1774 patients were examined and treated for various common ailments, through 14 Rural Medical Centers in Kanyakumari, Nellai and Thoothukudi districts.

4. Eye camps were conducted at 4 places, in Kanyakumari, and Nellai districts in which 632 were treated for their eye ailments and 121 were operated for cataract. 83 persons given  eye drops and 38 persons given spectacles.

5. In 179 Samskara Vargas, 7,220 students participated.  The students were taught about the values of Indian Culture, through games, lectures & lessons.  The feelings of oneness were strengthened among participants, through patriotic songs and games.

6. Under Adopt a Grannie Programme, 25 destitute and old people were provided with monthly solatiums, in the form of rice, dhal, oil, etc., for their livelihood and 114 persons provided rice only, in Southern four districts of Tamilnadu.

7. Monthly Deepa poojas were organized in 203 village temples in five districts of Southern Tamilnadu, in which 8775 ladies participated and offered prayers for the welfare of self, family and the society.

8. Under Amrita Surabhi Scheme, our Kendra workers collected 780 Kgs of rice from five districts.

9. Through various branch centers, including Thoothukudi A.O. and book stalls, literature books were sold for Rs. 75,061 /-

10. 446 Vivekavani Subscriptions collected.

11. 80 women are being benefited in 4 Self Help Groups in Kanyakumari district.     

12. Yoga Varga has been conducted at 02 places,  Kovilpatti and  Aruppukottai in which 25 persons attended.

13. Swadhyaya Varga has been conducted at one  places,  Kovilpatti and  Aruppukottai in which 13 persons attended

14. 4 tailoring units are functioning well in Nellai & Kanyakumari districts with the total attendance of 81.

15.  Shivalinga Poojas were conducted at 03 places in Kanyakumari District and 192 members participated.

16. Durga Pooja was conducted at 03 places, in Kanyakumari District in which 246 devotees participated.

17. Yoga camp was conducted at Vallioor from 27/07/2015 to 01/08/2015. 24 gents and 21 ladies participated . The function started with omkar and ended with pushpanjali.

18. Cultural conference was held at Ambasamudiram  and 105 students from 6 classes  In this conference Vivekanandar Kendra workers, wellwishers, teachers and volunteers participated.

19. Rural  level competition was held in five districts Total No.of. competitions - 38,  Schools -309, Students -6131, Parents - 254, Teachers  - 379

20. Urban  District level competition  held at Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts. Total No.of. competitions  -  2, Schools - 23, Students  - 377. Parents  - 26, Teachers  - 52

21. On 15.08.2015 Independence day was celebrated in 72  balwadies and nearly 2384 people participated.

22. Swami Vivekanandar  Vizha was performed at  9 places in 3 districts and 4135 persons participated .    

23.  508 deepa pooja was conducted in Veerakeralamputhur in Tirunelveli district where 472 peolpe participated.

24. Guru Purnima was celebrated at Peyankuzhi, Vallioor,Kovilpatti. Nearly 23 places and 2210 girls and boys participated in the function.

25. 1008 deepa pooja was conducted in Thiruvattar in Kanyakumari district , Tiruchendur in Thoothukudi district and Uthragosamangai in Ramnad distrrict where 987, 1082 and 1100 people participated respectively.

26. On 16/08/2013 in memory of Shri Ramalinga Aasari and Smt. Ramalakshmi sweets were distributed to 732 children in 31 balwadis from Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram  districts.

INSPIRING INCIDENTS

C.Saraswathi – Ambai – Tirunelveli District

This happened in Ambai – police station. We went there to get permission for canvassing the free - eye camp announcement to be held on 19.7.15. There was a big crowd because of the riot in a nearby village. A constable asked us to wait for some time. Even after 45 minutes we were not able to get in. When we thought of leaving a lady constable rushed towards us and welcomed us. She felt very sorry for not noticing us. Then she helped us to get the permission and treated us kindly with respect. We came to know that she had written the Indian culture test conducted by Vivekananda Kendra and selected for the camp. We realised the effect of our Kendra activities and thanked her for the timely help. Such incidents boost us to serve more and more.

K.Ramalakshmi - Chekkarakudi – II – Thoothukudi District

I am serving in Chekkarakudi – II. Every month we conduct Deepa Pooja. One last Tuesday a lady named Muthulakshmi came to me and asked me whether she could join the Deepa Pooja. I told her that it was for all who were willing. Then she came for 6 months continuously. Last week, after the Deepa Pooja she came to me and happily told me that she was blessed because of the pooja. She and her husband who were living separately joined together forgetting all their misunderstandings. Now they are very happy and peaceful. I am also very happy on hearing this and encourage to gather more number of ladies for the Deepa Pooja.

P.Sathya – Palayampatti – Virudhunagar district

This incident happened in our Balwadi at palayampatti. Rithish is so poor that he can’t even buy Chappals. He comes bare footed. One day when all the children went to the toilet, a boy named Karthick noticed Rithish going without Chappals. At once he took his Chappals on hand and gave them to Rithish and insisted him to take. I was much impressed to see Karthik’s helping tendency and Voluntary help in this young age.

R.Sakunthala – Pethaperumalkudiiruppu – Kanyakumari District

A lady named Sahaya Selva Rathika aged 30 came to Kanyakumari Eye – Camp. She had lost her one eye sight totally 5 years ago. She couldn’t see her child clearly. She underwent an operation in our camp and regained her lost eye-sight. She felt so happy for being able to see her young child and expressed her gratitude happily. Really I was much delighted and understood the fruit of service.
