Free Eye Screening Camp at Thiruppullani

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant,  Rural Development Programme (VKRDP), Ramanathapuram District, Thiruppullani branch, organised a Free Eye Screening Camp on 17th August 2025, at the Community Hall, Thiruppullani. The initiative aimed to provide accessible and affordable eye care services to the rural population, particularly addressing the needs of the underprivileged sections of society.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by donors and well-wishers, namely Shri. Rudranantha Swamy, Treasurer of Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Thirupparaithurai; Shri. Abdul Wahab; and Smt. Vaani, Panchayat Officer.

The medical team carried out the screening and consultation with great care and precision, focusing on the early detection of common eye problems such as cataract, refractive errors, and other preventable conditions. Patients identified with serious ailments were guided towards further medical intervention, including surgical treatment if required.

The camp received an encouraging response from the community, drawing participants from Thiruppullani and nearby villages. A total of 155 outpatients were examined during the camp, out of which 48 were identified as inpatients who require follow-up treatment and possible surgical intervention.

The camp was organised smoothly by the efforts of Kum. Naga Jyothi Akka, Senior Volunteer of Vivekananda Kendra, and Smt. Backiyalakshmi, Thiruppullani, along with a dedicated team of volunteers from Ramanathapuram district. The volunteers played a crucial role in managing the registration process, distributing tokens, guiding participants to the medical team, and ensuring that the camp functioned smoothly throughout the day.
