From 9th to 12th December 2019, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari organized two specialized medical camps at Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, Assam. A Free General Surgery Camp was organized at Marwari Arogya Bhawan and Hospital, Dibrugarh and a Free Video Endoscopy Camp was organized at Vivekananda Kendra Medical Center, Laipuli, Tinsukia.
Doctors from Mahatma Gandhi Mission Medical College, Kamothe, Navi Mumbai rendered their voluntary services during the free general surgery camp. A total 9 surgeries were successfully done for patients of Tirap, Changlang and Lower Dibang Valley districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Screening camps were conducted at three locations and 22 patients were screened for surgeries.
The free video endoscopy camp was conducted by Dr. Vinayak Kulkarni, a renowned Gastroenterologist from USA. A total 19 endoscopies were done. Mitra Medical Services LLP. , New Delhi provided man-power and machines for the camp.
Both the camps were inaugurated on 8th December at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Laipuli, Tinsukia. Distinguished Guests and Doctors participated in the inaugural function. All the guests Doctors were felicitated with Assamese Phulam Gamosa. Sri Sashi Bhushan Goel, Tinsukia Nagar Sanchalak of Vivekananda Kendra welcomed the guests. Sri Pravin Dabholkar Ji, Joint General Secretary of Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari delivered a lecture on the 50th anniversary of Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Dr. Gangadhar Maddiwar, a volunteer surgeon and pioneer of free surgery camps in remote areas through, Remote Area Medical Corp. (RAM), USA beautifully narrated his journey from a medical doctor to a medical social worker. Dr. U.C. Das, a veteran surgeon of upper Assam also addressed the gathering.
This is to be mentioned that the free surgery camp, organized by Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam completed 12 years and till date 1007 poor and needy patients were successfully operated.
