Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan Celebration at VKV Vallioor

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Vallioor (VKV-Vallioor), celebrated Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan on 19th August 2025 in the school premises. The programme, attended by 807 students and 96 parents, commenced at 10.30 am with Shri Ganapathi, P.A. to the District Collector (Retd.), as the Chief Guest. The Correspondent and the Principal also graced the occasion.

The celebration began with a prayer song rendered by the Kindergarten students, followed by the traditional lamp lighting by the Chief Guest, Correspondent, and Principal. A warm welcome was extended by Kum. Shaini of Class IX. Students chanted verses from the Bhagavad Gita, and a graceful dance performance depicting the divine charm of Lord Krishna added vibrancy to the occasion.

Teachers Smt. Mari and Smt. Subbulakshmi delivered insightful speeches in English and Tamil respectively on the significance of Krishna Jeyanthi and Raksha Bandhan. A cultural programme highlighted Krishna’s playful spirit through dance, and the traditional “Uriyadi” (pot-breaking) was enacted, adding authenticity to the celebrations. Disguised Krishnas and Radhas were appreciated with compliments, and Lord Krishna symbolically distributed snacks to the gathering.

The Raksha Bandhan ritual was observed as students tied rakhis to their brothers and sisters. Prizes were awarded to winners of various competitions conducted earlier. The Chief Guest delivered the felicitation address, sharing valuable thoughts with the gathering. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by B. Sudiksha of Class IX, followed by Kendra Prayer. Parents actively participated and appreciated the celebration, making the event memorable.

Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan Celebration at VKV Kanyakumari

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu Prant), celebrated Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan on 18th August 2025 at 2.00 p.m. in the school ground. A total of 1,320 students actively took part in the celebration.

The programme was presided over by Aadharneeya Radha Didi, Tamil Nadu Prant Sangathak, VRM & VK, with Sri. N. Neelakandan ji, Retd. Headmaster, Kottaram Govt. Hr. Sec. School as the Chief Guest. The programme was compered by Kum. Saranya of Class XI.

The celebration began with an invocation song by students of Classes VI and VII, followed by a welcome address by Sri Mathivathan Gaurav of Class VII. A devotional Krishna song presented by the girls of Classes VII and VIII filled the atmosphere with divinity. The importance of the day was highlighted in Tamil by Kum. D. B. Shobana of Class VII, who explained the cultural and spiritual significance of both Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan.

The Chief Guest, Sri. Neelakandan, then addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech. He emphasized the spiritual and cultural values of the festivals and advised students to cultivate discipline through spiritual learning. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he reminded everyone that true education includes both academics and values. He narrated stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata and the life of Lord Krishna, also sharing insights from the Krishna Bhakti Movement (ISKCON) in London. He explained that devotion makes life smooth, comparing bhakti to a boat that helps us cross the ocean of life with ease. He further highlighted the significance of Rakshabandhan, recalling the divine bond between Subhadra and Lord Krishna. His words left a lasting impression on the students and audience.

The Rakhi tying ceremony followed, where Kum. T. N. Ritu of Class XI tied Rakhi to her younger brother Saravanan of Class VII, symbolizing love and protection. Students also tied Rakhi to the dignitaries, making the occasion memorable. Aa. Radha Didi then greeted everyone, urging them to pledge to protect the Nation and Culture while developing themselves. She reminded the students to face challenges like Lord Krishna, with courage and positivity.

The programme gained festive vibrancy with the Uriyadi celebration. A boy dressed as Krishna, accompanied by girls as Radha, performed graceful dances. The highlight was the joyful breaking of the pot by “Krishna,” symbolizing victory and devotion. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony for academic toppers, announced by Smt. Menaga Devi, teacher of VKV. A memento was then presented to the Chief Guest by Aa. Radha Didi.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Kum. Harshithasri of Class VII, followed by the chanting of the Shanti Mantra, leaving the gathering with a sense of devotion, festivity, and cultural pride.

Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan Celebrations at VKV Vallioor

The festivals Gokulashtami and  Rakshabandhan were celebrated with an intense fervour in our school. Sri. Gnana Sekaran senior lawyer, Secretary of Arivu  Thirukovil , Vallioor,  Sri. Karthikeyan, lecturer, TDMNS college,  Kallikulam were the special guests. The programme was started by lighting the lamp. Bharatham, Kannan dance were presented by students. They danced as Gopikas and Krishnas. Conversation on Krishnas’ birth and life was displayed by students. Our  students chanted slogans from Bhagavath Geetha.  Special guest Sri.  Karthikeyan talked about  Krishna’s life  and  how it was profound impact on Indian culture. He also shared his views about the origin of Rakshabandhan.   Sri. Gnanasekaran  advised the students to give respect to the parents and teachers. Students from each class were asked to tie Rakhi rope during the function. Some of our students tied Rakhi rope to dignitaries.   Uriyadi  by our Krishnas was very special. Our Kids from LKG to I std dressed as Krishnas and Radhas made our school as Brindhavan .   Prasatham was distributed to the parents and students . Finally programme was concluded by Shanthi Manthra.

Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan Celebration : VKV Kanyakumari

Vivekananda kendra Vidyalaya celebrated two important function Gokulashtami as well as Rakshabandan. Lord Krishna’s birthday which is celebrated as Gokulashtami and Rakshabandan shows us the affection between brothers and sisters.

The program was started with invocation by the students of VI  std. It gave a divine blessing of god. V. Sindhu of class VII  welcomed the gathering. Karshika of VII std delivered a speech on the importance of the celebration. To destroyed the evil of kamsa and maintains peace Lord Krishna came to this world. The story of Lord Krishna was explained by the student karshika. A good and beautiful music combines, body , heart and mind together. There by bring peace to the busy minds. The students of 7th std gave a sweet song to reach god.

Raja Yohini, Brahma Kumari Kohila sister was the Chief guest of the celebration. She is an expert in teaching yoga and meditation. She said that we all have to make a promise to maintain peace, calm and sweetness like  such good manners in us. She also said that we all have to take a pledge to thank god in each day morning and night.

Rakhi is a special sacred thread that shows relation between brothers and sisters. A small boy tied Rakhi to the Chief guest. The Chief guest Raja Yohini was honoured by given a memento by the Principal S. Abraham Lingom.

Uriyadi is a traditional pot breaking game. Lord Krishna stole butter from the pot in Brindavan. A small boy was decorated as Lord Krishna and he break the pot which was tied in the tree with butter. The boy appeared like Lord Krishna and we admire him. Nivedhini of 8th std presented the vote of thanks which followed by Kendra Prarthana.

Gokulashtami & Raksha Bandan at VKV Vallioor

The twin festivals Gokulashtami and Rakshabandhan were celebrated with an intense fervour  on 07.09.2012 in Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Vallioor in Tamilnadu. The ceremony started at 10.30 A.M. in the presence of respected and beloved Ayyappanji, General secretary of  Rural Development Program of Vivekananda  Kendra,  respected correspondent of the school Sri. S.K.Subramanian, beloved principal Mrs. R. Andal.

The programme was started by singing the Krishna song by the students in the way of welcoming the Lord Krishna . Following that Mrs.S.Devi, one of the senior teacher of V.K.V School delivered a thought provoking lecture about Krishna Jayanthi and Rakshabandhan. In her speech she pointed out the 10 Avatharas and the greatness of Krishna Avathar. She also said that how the relationship should be maintained between the brothers and sisters.

Sri.Ayyanpanji gave an oration about importance of Krishna Avathar and advised the students to get the prosperous future by following good manners.  Besides celebrating the programmes, our students chanted Bakthi yoga slogans from the Bhagavat geetha devotionaly. Dance of Gobikas and Uriyadi by two Balakrishnas were very special and also it beautified the programme. Each class sisters and brothers were asked to tie the Rakhi during the function. Finally celebration concluded by singing Kendra prayer . Truly the entire programme and its performance went of well and inspired the school children.

Gokulashtami & Rakshabandhan Celebration at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Kanyakumari

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Kanyakumari celebrates the twin festivals Rakshabandhan & Gokulashtami on 20th Aug 2011 at 2.30 P.M. Sethulakshmi of class XI welcome the gathering. Man. Krishnamoorthy, Secretary, RDP, Vivekananda Kendra was the Chief Guest. While he was speaking, he explained the Guru Bhakthi of Lord Krishna. Also Krishna asked his mother Devaki a Boon, that His life fully he wants eat food from his mother’s hand. So many Krishna songs were sung by our Vidyalaya Children (Gopikas). Uriyadi was also performed. Krishna & Gopika dance was given a feast to all our eyes. At the end of the program rakhi was tied to our chief guest and all our students. After getting the divine blessing from Krishna, prasadam was given to all our students.
