Development should go hand in hand with culture

ROING, Mar 6: Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti, Roing organized ‘Vimarsha’, a lecture session of Padmashree Nivedita Bhide, vice president of All India Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.

The programme was held at VKV, Roing on the topic ‘development through culture’.

On the occasion, Gingko Lingi, president of Idu Mishimi Culture & Literary Society, felicitated Nivedidta Bhide for being conferred with Padmashree award this year.

The session started with indigenous Idu Mishimi prayer by Hornbill school. After prayer, Nivedita enlightened the gathering on the topic.

“We need development but not at the cost of culture. Development is possible only when there are individual rights, individual freedom and growth of culture. Development alone cannot sustain for long,” she said adding “for a sustainable development, development should go hand in hand with culture. We shall feel proud of our own culture and be rooted to it.”

She further said: “Arunachal Pradesh is a land of rich culture and could become example for not only other Indian states but the whole world for development with culture.”

Jatan Pulu, member of General Body VKV, Arunachal Pradesh, presided over the programme.
