VELGA VELGAVEY YOUTH CAMP REPORT [22nd TO 26th JANUARY 2011]

Velga Velgavey Held at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College, Madurai (22nd to 26th January 2011)



The shibir was inaugurated on 22nd January by Swami Kamalatmanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Math, Madurai. Susri Nivedita Bhide, Vice President, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dr R Dinakaran, Chairman of the State Committee and Sri Ananda Amritam of Anantha Metals were also present and spoke on the occasion.

The participants were organized into 34 groups, 20 for girls and 14 for boys. Groups are named after saints, patriots, artists andscientists from Tamilnadu. Two groups are combined into a Mandal. The mandals are names after the Pilgrim Centers of Tamilnadu. Whole shibir was managed by a team of 250 volunteers.

On 25th, the penultimate day all the 1013 participants performed 108 Suryanamaskars. A deepa puja was organized on the same day evening, which concluded with a dance recital.

On 26th January, after the oath taking, valedictory function was held. Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Govt. Of India was the Chief Guest.
