Rural Health Assurance

A webinar on the topic “Rural Health Assurance” was successfully organized by Vivekananda Kendra, NARDEP, Kanyakumari under the Vasudha – Towards Sustainable Living initiative.

The session was held on Sunday, 29th March 2026 at 10:00 AM through Google Meet. The webinar aimed to highlight the importance of strengthening healthcare systems in rural areas and creating awareness about accessible and sustainable medical services.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Uihas Jajoo, MD (Medicine), who serves as the Director Professor, Department of Medicine at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sevagram, Maharashtra.

Dr. Jajoo delivered an insightful talk focusing on:

  • The current challenges in rural healthcare delivery
  • The importance of preventive healthcare and early diagnosis
  • Community participation in improving health standards
  • Sustainable approaches to ensure long-term rural health assurance

The session was informative and thought-provoking, encouraging participants to understand the critical need for improving healthcare infrastructure in rural regions. It also emphasized the role of individuals and organizations in contributing to holistic rural development.

The webinar witnessed active participation, and the attendees benefitted from the expert insights shared during the session.

Mother's Day Celebration at VKV Kanyakumari

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu Prant) celebrated Mother's Day with profound reverence in connection with the birth anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa on 13 March 2026. The event drew 150 participants, including students, teachers, and parents. The celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the selfless dedication of mothers in nurturing future generations. 

The program commenced on a divine note with a prayer song rendered by a participant, Smt. Krishna Poonkodi. Smt. Selvarani gracefully hosted the event as the Master of Ceremonies, ensuring smooth transitions between events, while Smt. Maya Devi warmly delivered the welcome address. The festivities featured a variety of spirited competitions—including Rangoli, Kolaru Pathiham Reciting, Indoor & Outdoor Games and Cooking—where mothers showcased their diverse talents.

The occasion was graced by the Chief Guests, Thiru Kalidasan and Smt. J.L. Abirami, P.E.T. Teacher, S.M.S.M. Hr. Sec. School, Suchindrum. In her insightful address, Smt. Abirami fondly recalled her past connection with the school as a student competitor and expressed pride in returning as a guest. Quoting the Thirukkural and Mahatma Gandhi, she emphasized that mothers are primary architects of a child's character. She shared the inspiring historical legend of a brave mother from Chhatrapati Shivaji’s era to highlight a mother's boundless courage. To guide modern parenting, she advised mothers to speak kindly to children, especially in the morning; to monitor their friendships and environments while actively listening to them; to narrate inspiring historical stories to build character; and to curtail mobile phone screen time while fostering a love for reading.

The program was presided over by Aadaraneeya Kum. Priyamvada Didi, Jeevan-vrati karyakarta of Vivekananda Kendra. The atmosphere remained lively as winners of various competitions, including a special cooking contest for teachers, were honored during the prize distribution ceremony led by Smt. Shanthakumari. The program concluded with a series of touching testimonials from mothers, who shared the joys and challenges of parenthood.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Smt. Anitha and the chanting of the Shanti Mantra.

Saraswati Puja at Ganesha Anandalaya in Hebbal

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Karnataka Prant, Hebbal Branch, Ganesha Anandalaya organized Saraswati Puja at on 6 March 2026 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Sunrise School, Kempapura, Hebbal, with the participation of 10 students and 7 karyakartas.

The programme commenced with three Omkaras and Shanti Path, followed by the chanting of Saraswati Shlokas. The Saraswati Puja and Stuti were performed by the Anandalaya children with devotion.

As part of the programme, Saraswati bhajans and shlokas were taught to the children, and Dhyana Sankalpa was also undertaken by the students. The programme concluded with the Shanti Mantra and Kendra Prarthana, leaving the participants with a sense of devotion and cultural enrichment.

Yoga Sastra Sangamam 2026: 9th International Conference on Yoga Philosophy

The 9th International Conference onYoga PhilosophyYoga Sastra Sangamam, was organized by Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, in collaboration with the Center for Yoga and Naturopathy, Mahatma Gandhi University; the Central University of Himachal Pradesh; the Central University of Kerala; the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram; Mangalore University; and the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Jumla, Nepal. The conference was held at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari, from February 27 to March 1, 2026, with the participation of 685 attendees, including delegates, guests, and members of the organizing team.

More than 40 renowned yoga institutions, including Mahatma Gandhi University, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Yogaarthi, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, HVP Mandal's Degree College of Physical Education, Bihar School of Yoga and Satyananda Yoga Center, Mangalore University, Central University of Kerala, Sanatana Yoga Vignana Kendra, Yoga Bharati Foundation, SVYASA, Yoga Gita–Mysore, Satguru Yoga Vidhyalayam, Yoga Circle Bhabha Atomic Research Centre–Mumbai (BARC), Yoga Vidya Niketan, Patanjali Yoga Research Centre, Vethathiri Maharishi College of Yoga, Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Academy, New Age Yoga Institute, and many others were represented at the conference.

The three-day conference commenced with Patanjali Homam, featuring the chanting of the 108 names of Maharishi Patanjali at 6 AM each day, followed by yoga practice sessions. The Pratyahara and Dharana practices were led by Sanyasi Shivarishi Ji from the Satyananda Yoga Centre, Chennai, while the pranayama sessions were conducted by Dr. Devaki Madhav from the Scientific Pranayama Foundation Trust, Mysore. The Ashtanga Yoga practice was led by Sage Vigo from Yoga Gita, Mysore.

The conference was graced by the presence of Paramacharya Paramahamsa Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati from the Bihar school of Yoga, the spiritual successor of Swami Satyananda Saraswati and a 2017 Padma Bhushan awardee, and Pujya Swami Haribrahmendrananda Tirtha, the revered Acharya of the Adi Shankara Brahmavidya Peeth, Uttarkashi. Their auspicious and inspiring presence, along with their profound wisdom, deeply influenced the delegates and enriched the discussions with invaluable insights.

Inaugural Session

The inaugural session took place on February 27 at Swami Vivekananda Sabhagriham. The event was honored by the presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of KeralaProfessor (Dr.) Mohanan KunnummalMananeeya Sri Bhanudasji DhakrasGeneral Secretary of Vivekananda Rock Memorial & Vivekananda Kendra; and Dr. Nrithya JagannathanDirector, Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) Institute of Yoga Studies.

Pujya Swami Haribrahmendrananda Tirtha of Adi Shankara Brahma Vidya Peeth and Paramacharya Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati of Bihar School of Yoga graced the inaugural session and blessed the delegates. The conference proceedings, containing abstracts of the presented papers, were released during the inaugural session. Additionally, the Kendra Patrika titled “Yoga Vasishtam” was also released.

The delegates were treated to a captivating dance recital (Natya Yoga) by the students of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Kanyakumari. Additionally, a visit was organized to the exhibitions on the campus and to the mid-sea Vivekananda Rock Memorial, offering them an opportunity to be inspired by Swami Vivekananda. An opportunity was also provided for delegates to showcase their advanced yoga postures and unique talents, highlighting their expertise and dedication to the practice.

Plenary Sessions and Presentations

The plenary sessions featured Paramacharya Paramahamsa Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati, Swami Haribrahmendrananda Tirtha, and Dr. Nrithya Jagannathan. Each session provided deep insights into the Patanjala Yoga Sutras, demonstrating their relevance to contemporary yoga practice.

Several engaging events were conducted as part of the conference, including paper presentations, poster presentations, and Patanjala Yoga Sutra chanting competitions. The conference featured six plenary sessions and twenty-one parallel paper presentation sessions held across six venues within the campus, with 245 scholarly papers presented on the Patanjala Yoga Sutras. Eminent scholars served as moderators, ensuring insightful discussions and guiding the sessions with their expertise. Eight posters, created by delegates, illustrated various concepts of the Patanjala Yoga Sutras and were prominently displayed at the auditorium.

Patanjala Yoga Sutra Recitation Competition

The Patanjala Yoga Sutra recitation competition was held on March 1, 2026. Participants were required to recite any two consecutive Padhas from the Patanjala Yoga Sutras, and they were judged based on proper pronunciation and accuracy. A total of 18 participants took part in the competition.

Valedictory Function

The valedictory session was held on March 1, beginning with vibrant cultural performances by Mahatma Gandhi University. Guests, moderators, the best performers in the Patanjala Yoga Sutra recitation competition, and the best poster presenters were felicitated and honored.

Free ENT Check-up and Surgery Camp by VK Arun Jyoti

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Arunachal Prant, Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti, organized a Free ENT Check-up and Surgery Camp on 27 and 28 February 2026 at Zonal General Hospital, Aalo, located in West Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh. The camp was conducted by a team of doctors from MENTS Hospital,  Bengaluru under the leadership of Dr. Pradeep Kumar PS, who has been rendering dedicated medical service in Arunachal Pradesh since 2001. During the two-day camp, 142 patients with ENT problems were examined and five surgeries were successfully performed. It is noteworthy that microsurgeries such as tympanoplasty require considerable time and expertise, often taking two hours or more for a single procedure.

The camp was inaugurated on 27 February by Dr. Linya Lollen, District Medical Officer of West Siang district, and Dr. Karken Rina, Medical Superintendent of Zonal General Hospital, Aalo. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, after which the visiting doctors were felicitated by Dr. Nyage Padu Bagra. The welcome address was delivered by Sri Doi Kamduk ji, Nagar Pramukh of Vivekananda Kendra, Aalo. Dr. Ramesh H., the senior-most member of the MENTS Hospital team, briefly spoke about their philanthropic medical activities. Dr. Taking Paser encouraged the youth to come forward and contribute to social service. The programme concluded with motivating speeches by the District Medical Officer and the Medical Superintendent. Around 30 student volunteers from Teachers Training College, Aalo and Donyi Polo Government College, Kamki actively supported the smooth conduct of the camp.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Pradeep Kumar PS and his team have been conducting similar service activities since 2001 and have treated more than 2,000 ENT patients while successfully performing nearly 200 surgeries for needy patients across various locations in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, thereby extending valuable medical care to remote and underserved communities.

Annual Sports Day 2026 Celebration at VKV Kanyakumari

The Annual Sports Day of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu Prant), was celebrated on 25 February 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and staff. The programme aimed to promote physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the students. A total of 1,100 students participated in the celebration.

The morning session began at 9:00 AM with an invocation and welcome address in the presence of the Principal Smt. G. Sariga, Vice Principal Sri Sanjeev Rajan, and the Chief Guest Dr. RadhikaProfessor of Rohini College of Engineering. The programme was coordinated by the Physical Education teachers Smt. V. Vijaya Nirmala and Sri K. Esai Reshwanth, and compered by T. N. Rithu of Class XI A.

The Olympic lamp was ceremonially lit symbolizing unity and the spirit of sports. Sports achievers Shri Mathan (X Std), Kum. Akshaya Lakshmi (VIII Std), Kum. Akshaya (VIII Std), and Kum. Lucy Monica (XII A) carried the Olympic torch around the playground before it was lit by the Chief Guest along with the Principal and Vice Principal. This was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony marking the formal inauguration of the Sports Day. In her address, Dr. Radhika emphasized that sports help develop discipline, character, perseverance, and equality. She also highlighted the inspiring example of Paralympic high jumper Shri Mariyappan who overcame physical challenges through determination and continuous practice. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest by the Principal.

The sports events began with the symbolic release of doves representing peace and unity. Various athletic competitions were conducted for students of different classes, and the finals for classes VIII to XII were held in front of the entire school. Students participated actively and displayed enthusiasm, discipline, and team spirit throughout the events.

The evening session began with an invocation by the students of Std VII, followed by a welcome address by Kum. R. Tharshini of Class XI and a speech on the importance of the day by Kum. Vanisha of Class VIII B. The Chief Guest for the evening session, Shri C. M. ChellathuraiTraffic Inspector, appreciated the students for their participation and emphasized the importance of road safety. He encouraged students to follow traffic rules and create awareness among their family members regarding the use of helmets, seat belts, and responsible driving.

Prizes, certificates, and medals were distributed to the winners by the Chief Guest. The prize list was read by Smt. Abinaya Lakshmi, teacher. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Shri Akshanth of Class XI C. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest by the Principal. The programme concluded with Kendra Prarthana, marking the successful completion of the Annual Sports Day celebration.

Anandalaya Utsava at Mysore

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Karnataka Prant, Chamundeshwari Devi Vibhag, Mysore Branch, was successfully organized the Anandalaya Utsava, a vibrant inter-Anandalaya cultural meet, held on February 22, 2026. This grand gathering saw a total attendance of 494 people including, 246 Students, and18 Anandalaya Shishaks from 16 Anandalaya, 48 Senior Children, 8 Vibhaga Karyakartas, 26 Nagar Karyakartas, 126 College Students and 17 Parents.

The program commenced with the auspicious Deepa Prajwalana by the chief guest, Sri Anandamurti Ji, followed by a warm welcome from Sri Siddegowda ji and a stirring rendition of “Vande Mataram” by Sri Rishikesh ji.

A significant highlight of the event was the release of the Kannada translation of the “Kishori Vikasa” book by Smt. Shruti Didi, complemented by Sri Anandamurti Ji’s insightful address on the role of Samskaras in youth development. Under the efficient coordination of Kum. Kavana Didi and the thematic introduction by Sri Aravinda ji, the day transitioned into a series of spirited cultural competitions.

Students showcased their devotion and talent through the recitation of Bhagavad Gita verses, Hanuman Chalisa, Shlokas, and Viveka Vani, as well as participating in Quiz rounds, Folk Dance, and a disciplined display of Surya Namaskar.

Dr. A. S. Chandrashekhar Ji, Vibhaga Sanchalak, further inspired the audience by sharing stories of Swami Vivekananda ji and emphasizing the importance of values and Rashtra Seva (national service).

The Utsava concluded with the Shanti Mantra, leaving every participant with a sense of pride as children and teachers were honored with gifts and the Vyavastha Dinadarshini as tokens of appreciation for their dedication.

The Kishori Vikas Workshop at Mysore

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Karnataka Prant, Mysore Branch, organized the Kishori Vikas workshop on February 21, 2026, at Sri Sharada Shikshana Samsthe in Hanumanaalu, Mysore. The event brought together 60 Kishoris, 6 teachers, and 5 Kendra Karyakartas.

The program began with the release and distribution of the Kishori Vikasa book to all participating Kishoris. Smt. Tanuja didi introduced the Kendra karyakartas – Ms. Gayatri Didi, Ms.Vasumathi Didi, Ms. Supriya, and Ms. Sowmya Didi. Ms. Supriya served as the anchor for the event.

Ms. Vasumathi Didi rendered two soulful bhajans and presented a patriotic song. Ms. Sowmya Didi sang the Kishori Vikas Geet, then introduced Vivekananda Kendra and elaborated on the objectives of Kishori Vikas workshop, emphasizing mental empowerment, safety, and emotional protection within the family. Ms. Sowmya Didi demonstrated useful hand mudras for the Kishoris. This was followed by a speech on becoming the architect of one’s own life, highlighting the vital role of mothers in the family and drawing inspiration from the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda on women.

Ms. Gayatri Didi spoke about social protection for women and highlighted various ways to achieve it. She provided detailed guidance on adolescent health, spoke about nurturing “Ojas,” and emphasized fostering self-reliance among women. She then conducted three interactive activities, including identifying Shreyas and Preyas.

Ms. Supriya Didi conducted a 20-minute practical session on Yogasanas and Surya Namaskar. She also addressed important topics such as friendship, love, social media, and beauty, stressing that inner beauty surpasses external appearance. She cited the inspiring example of Dr. Droupadi Murmu, the Honourable President of India, followed by slogans.

The workshop also included a short question-and-answer session, followed by three simple and enjoyable games organized by Ms. Supriya didi. The program concluded with the Kendra Prayer.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Jayanti celebrated at R.T. Nagar

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Karnataka Prant, R.T. Nagar Branch celebrated Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Jayanti with deep reverence on February 19, 2026, at the Samhita School of Performing Arts. The event brought together 23 participants in a vibrant atmosphere of spirituality and devotion.

The celebration began with a traditional prayer and the soulful rendering of Guru Bhajans. The highlight of the celebration was the collective chanting of "Sarva Deva Devi Swarupaya Ramakrishnaya Namaha" 21 times, followed by a solful Aarti that filled the space with a sense of peace.

Sri. Bharath Ji enriched the gathering by sharing insightful stories from the spiritual life and teachings of Takur Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, inspiring the attendees with his message of universal harmony.

The celebration concluded with Pushpa Archana, where all the children offered flowers to seek the Takur's blessings, followed by the Khandana Bhava Bandhana hymn and the Maha Mangalaarati.

Mother's Day Celebration at VKV Vallioor

Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor (Tamil Nadu Prant), celebrated the Mother’s Day on 18 February 2026 at 2.30 PM in the Yoga Hall with the participation of 250 parents. The programme was presided over by Sri S. K. Subramanianji, Correspondent of VKV MHSS Vallioor, and Smt. K. Sumitha, MA., B.Ed., Counselor of Vadakku Vallioor Panchayat, attended as the Chief Guest.

The celebration was organized to honour the selfless love and sacrifice of mothers. The programme began with a devotional prayer song rendered by the students seeking the blessings of the Almighty, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by teacher Smt. Subha. The Chief Guest inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of the Correspondent Sri S. K. Subramanianji and the Principal Smt. S. Esakkiammal.

Various cultural programmes and competitions were conducted to highlight the greatness of motherhood. Students performed a rhythmic dance and presented a choral tribute expressing love and gratitude towards mothers. A poetry competition was also conducted in which students recited touching verses describing the word “Amma” as a three-letter miracle.

The winners of the competitions were honoured and presented prizes by the Chief Guest. On the significance of the day, teacher Smt. Revathi spoke about how a mother is the first deity in a child’s life, referring to the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The programme also included inspiring words and spiritual quotes of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Holy Mother Sarada Devi emphasizing the divine nature of motherhood. A lucky card prize segment was also conducted for the parents which added excitement to the celebration. In her address, the Chief Guest highlighted that a mother’s upbringing forms the strong foundation for a successful life. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. T. Rajula Devi.

Mahashivratri Celebration at Hebbal

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Karnataka Prant, Hebbal Nagarsthan, celebrated Mahashivratri on 15 February 2026 at VS Yoga Centre, Hebbal Kempapura, from 5.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. The programme witnessed the participation of 80 people, including 20 karyakartas, creating a deeply devotional and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

The programme commenced with the chanting of three Omkaras followed by Shanti Mantras. This was followed by the devotional song “Shambho Purare” rendered by the Sanskar Varga children. Ms. Smitha Ji then explained the spiritual significance of Mahashivratri, recounting inspiring episodes from the Itihasas and Puranas. She also presented a Kendra Parichaya, highlighting the mission, vision, and activities of Vivekananda Kendra.

The central part of the programme was the Shiva Pooja, conducted by Shri Vaidyaji and Shri Chandruji, which included the chanting of mantras and shlokas along with archana, arati, and nivedanam as per the prescribed rituals. Following the pooja, devotional bhajans were sung by Abinnaya Ji and the Amrit Parivar team, along with a musical performance presented by the family of Shri Satya Ji.

After the completion of the pooja arati at around 7.10 p.m., Bhojana / Alpahar was served to the participants. Subsequently, Ms. Abinnaya Ji and the Amrit Parivar team led the chanting of various Ashtakams, followed by a meditation session. The programme concluded with the Maha Mangala Arati.

The event provided a deeply devotional experience for all the participants and strengthened the spirit of collective prayer and cultural observance.
